We were confused. For the first month of her life, we’d been dancing Matilda around to Joan Baez’ song “The Band Played Waltzing Matilda”, thinking that it was the popular song that everyone kept referencing. For those who don’t know, it’s quite a depressing song about war and I always felt weird dancing little Tilly around to it.
Well, this morning, we finally discovered the original song, “Waltzing Matilda” and it is lovely to dance to. Plus it’s the unofficial national song of Australia.
We now anticipate an epic trip down under for Matilda in the future.
